According to local media of Zhangjiajie, Hunan province, on Monday, a travel agency representative presented a banner of thanks to a transport company on behalf of a group of South Korean tourists whose lives had been saved by bus driver, Xiao Bo.

Xiao fell ill at the wheel but managed to bring his vehicle safely to a halt, saving all 12 people on board, before losing consciousness and later passing away, authorities said.

The Department of Transportation of Hunan Province reports that on June 29, 11 South Korean tourists and their guide were traveling to Zhangjiajie when, at around 9 pm, their bus began drifting out of its lane and weaving across the expressway, as shown by dash-cam footage.

The footage shows Xiao looking distressed. Summoning his remaining strength, he applied the brakes and shut off the engine to bring the bus to a stop in the traffic lane. He then raised his hand to steer but was unable to regain control.

Officials said that Xiao, a 41-year-old veteran driver, had suffered a sudden brainstem hemorrhage. He remained in a coma for three days before passing away.
