Shanghai to host first World Drone Soccer Championships
The inaugural World Drone Soccer Championships are set to take place in Shanghai from Nov 15 to 18. Recognized as a Class A event by the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (World Air Sports Federation), the tournament marks Shanghai's return to hosting the highest-level single-discipline FAI event after 31 years.
Drone soccer innovatively blends unmanned aerial technology with the dynamics of traditional soccer. In fast-paced 5v5 or 3v3 matches, pilots maneuver specially designed drones, demonstrating precision flying in a sport that is both visually striking and technically demanding.
The championships will feature two competition categories, F9A-A and F9A-B, with 45 elite teams from 18 countries and regions competing for the title. As the host nation, China will field two teams in each category.
Beyond the high-speed matches, the event will feature an immersive carnival with interactive experiences. Attendees can try drone soccer in a virtual sports zone, explore the latest devices and components in a tech exhibition area, and shop for themed merchandise in a cultural and creative products section.
