China on Wednesday reaffirmed that adherence to the one-China principle is the political foundation for Chinese Taipei's participation in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, dismissing claims by officials from the Taiwan region that the Chinese mainland has set "additional conditions" for its participation in next year's meetings.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a regular news briefing that under the one-China principle, participating in APEC as a regional economy and following the relevant memorandum of understanding and established practices of the forum constitute the political premise for Chinese Taipei's participation in APEC.
"Our position on this issue is clear and firm," Mao said.
