Kunming Dry Port train further enhances regional connectivity
The launch ceremony for the Kunming Dry Port train, part of the China-Laos-Thailand-Malaysia Railway, was held in Anning, Yunnan province, on Friday.
The train, carrying a full load of sunflower seeds, has begun operations from Anning, passing through Vientiane, capital of Laos, Perlis Inland Port in Malaysia, and eventually reaching Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia. The entire journey utilizes a road-rail multimodal transport mode, marking the establishment of a stable logistics corridor between Kunming and land port city in Malaysia.
The outbound journey of the train is expected to take 8 to 10 days, nearly 10 days shorter than sea transport, while the return journey, expected to take 9 to 12 days, will be loaded with products such as Malaysian palm kernel meal.
Bi Shaogang, Party secretary of Anning, said that the successful launch of the international train service marks a new breakthrough in the two-way connectivity of the central route of the pan-Asia railway network, establishing an efficient and convenient international logistics corridor and expanding Yunnan's access to the Indian Ocean region.
Zi Yuhua, head of overseas business department of Yunnan Zhongzi Overseas Consulting Co, said that she was very excited to witness the launch of the train.
This freight train improves the efficiency of cross-border cargo transport and boosts the confidence of Yunnan enterprises in exporting products, she added.
The Kunming Dry Port train, which began operations in November 2024, has been included in the scheduled train services.
