Manpowered plane takes off in Shanghai

 Handout photo released Tuesday shows staff preparing for the maiden voyage of a manpowered plane, alleged the first in China, in Fengxian District of Shanghai, March 25, 2009. Plane designer Mao Yiqing rode on pedals to gear up the 42kg aircraft, which stayed afloat 2.6m high for 20 seconds spanning 126 meters. Mao attempts to put the aircraft mode into mass production despite scepticism over its practicality. [CFP]
