Quake-hit Dujiangyan's GDP to grow 15% this year

Dujiangyan, a city in Sichuan province that was ravaged by the 8.0-magnitude earthquake in Wenchuan on May 12, 2008, expects a gross domestic product growth of more than 15 percent in 2010, the Chengdu Daily reported.

With fast development in the past two years after the quake, the city is expecting a fixed asset investment of 18 billion yuan ($2.6 billion) in 2010, a fiscal revenue growth of more than 20 percent and a 20 percent growth of retail sales.

Despite the earthquake, the city saw a record 9.58 million tourists in 2009, increasing 15.8 percent from 2007; revenue of its tourism industry reached 4.2 billion yuan in 2009, increasing 26 percent from 2007.

With the help of the Shanghai municipal government, Dujiangyan constructed a 100,000-mu (6,700-hectare) eco-agriculture cluster that features kiwi fruit planting and fish-farming and sold the products to the high-end market within China and abroad.
