Excavation focuses on main coffin of Western Han Dynasty cemetery

Archaeologists work at the main tomb of Haihunhou cemetery in Nanchang, East China's Jiangxi province, Dec 17, 2015. The cemetery, dating back to the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-25 AD), covers some 40,000 square meters with eight tombs and a chariot burial site. Archeologists suspect that the main tomb is that of Liu He, grandson of Emperor Wu, the greatest ruler of Han Dynasty, one of the most prosperous periods in China's history. The excavation began in 2011. The current stage of the archeological work is to look for items locked in the coffin of the central mausoleum, which is about 3.7 meters long and 1.7 meters wide.
