CAIRO - A microbus overturned Saturday on a desert highway heading to Upper Egypt's governorate of Minia, some 220 km south of the capital Cairo, state-run Al-Ahram Online reported.

The overturn left no one dead, but injured 11 passengers, including six Syrians and a Chinese woman who went into a coma, according to the report.

The accident took place when one of the tyres blew out, causing the microbus out of control.

The injured were taken to the nearby Mallawi Public Hospital.

On Friday, 12 people were killed in two similar car accidents in northern and southern Egypt.

Road accidents claim Egyptian lives almost every day. Transportation Minister Hatem Abdel-Latif said such accidents kill around 10,000 people each year.

Lack of highway security monitoring systems, improper road maintenance and irresponsible behavior of citizens are behind the high rate of road accidents in Egypt.
