Qaida-inspired group claims wave of blasts in Cairo

Xinhua | Updated: 2014-01-25 16:18

CAIRO - Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, a Sinai-based al-Qaida-inspired group claimed responsibility for all the bombing attacks targeting Egyptian police in Cairo since Friday, the group said in a statement Saturday.

Late Friday, the group also warned Egyptians against holding any pro-military rallies on Saturday, the third anniversary of the 2011 uprising that toppled former president Hosni Mubarak.

Ansar Beit al-Maqdis is a supporter of former Islamist president Mohamed Morsi, who was removed by the military last July following mass protests against his rule and his Muslim Brotherhood group.

In the statement, the Jihadist group asked the Egyptians to stay away from any police buildings.

"Stay away from our unfaithful enemies' headquarters and security premises," said the statement posed on the Jihad forums.

A string of deadly explosions have killed six people and wounded nearly one hundred others in Cairo since Friday.
