Erdos, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, recently announced it would provide a childcare subsidy of 10,000 yuan ($1,404) annually for three years for families having a third child, according to the local health commission.

The national standard for the subsidy is 3,600 yuan.

The subsidy for the first and second child in the city remains matched with the national standard of 3,600 yuan per year. Parents can apply for the subsidy through an information management system through WeChat and Alipay.

The city also offers 500 yuan of subsidy for pregnancy exams and 2,000 yuan for the birth of second and third babies. Families with the second or third child attending kindergarten or nurseries can apply for subsidies of 1,000 yuan or 2,500 yuan per person per semester, respectively, until they grow to 6.

Jiang Quanbao, a professor at the School of Labor Economics of the Capital University of Economics and Business in Beijing, told media outlet Yicai that there are vast differences in economic development levels across China's regions, both inter-provincial differences and differences between cities within provinces.

Therefore, on the basis of the national childcare subsidy system, all local authorities should formulate subsidy policies within the scope of their financial capacity, adapting measures to local conditions, he said.

Through the coordinated efforts of the central and local governments, a multi-level and three-dimensional policy support system for childbirth will be formed, he told Xinhua.
