Wuchuan Youth beat Shenzhen Yipingao to win soccer league championship
The second leg of the Guangdong provincial soccer league final kicked off on Sunday in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, with Wuchuan Youth, from Zhanjiang in the western part of Guangdong, claiming the championship.
In the highly anticipated match at the People's Stadium of Guangdong Province, Wuchuan Youth, dubbed as a dark horse in this year's tournament, showcased remarkable strength by defeating the defending champions, Shenzhen Yipingao.
This victory, with an aggregate score of 2-1 over the two legs, crowned Wuchuan Youth champions in the tournament for the first time, bringing the four-month-long tournament to a successful conclusion.
The tournament this year kicked off a fresh start, with a record number of participating teams and sponsors, according to the event's organizers.
Since the tournament began in August, the Guangdong Football Super League has attracted 22 teams from 13 cities across the province, marking a 225 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Also, nearly 30 leading domestic companies from various industries supported the league, according to the event's organizers.
As the tournament progressed, it attracted increasing public attention, and by the final stage, tickets were in high demand.
Over 100,000 fans attended the semifinals and finals, and to ensure fairness for the second leg of the final, tickets were sold via a lottery system with a 17 percent success rate.
